ENRIQUE GASA VALGA

TRAINING AND BEGINNINGS

Enrique Gasa Valga comes from Barcelona, Spain. He attended the ballet school in Zaragoza for five years. He then won a coveted scholarship to the Escuela Nacional de Ballet de Cuba, a dance academy that has trained some of the world's most renowned ballet dancers. He graduated with honors and began his successful international career. In the 2003/04 season, he came to Innsbruck and became a member of the dance ensemble of the Tiroler Landestheater.

At the age of 27, he founded the "Festival Internacional de Dansa d'Esparreguera" in his home town of Esparreguera as director and choreographer, which he directed for seven years and which was performed every summer. In 2009, he took over the management of the Tiroler Landestheater dance company. With "Ole! Es lebe das Leben" he presented himself to the Tyrolean audience, and his first production was received with thunderous applause. His works include over 20 full-length ballets such as Frida Kahlo, Beethoven lautlos, the touching and witty Das bin ich, Dante Inferno, where he implemented video and digital elements into the piece for the first time. Some pieces, such as Madame Butterfly, even took him and his ensemble to South Korea.

HIS CAREER

Since Enrique Gasa Valga took over the management of TanzCompany Innsbruck, the status of dance and ballet in Tyrol has changed dramatically. People who had never attended a ballet performance before became loyal fans of the company. His pieces were hugely successful and he was able to enjoy sold-out evenings and continuous standing ovations. Enrique Gasa Valga even brought world-famous choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin and Nacho Duato to Innsbruck. His productions have been nominated five times in the"Best Ballet Production" category of the Austrian Music Theater Prize, and he won this award with Frida Kahlo and The Tempest.

With Gaia Mother Earth, premiered in the Stubai Valley in 2017 as an open-air show, he won the Tirol Touristica Award 2017 in the "Events and Major Events" category. He has also received the Tirolissimo advertising award three times.

In summer 2022 and 2023, he staged the musicals Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar for Operetten Sommer Kufstein.

Since December 2023, he has founded his own Gasa Valga Dance Company , whose first season was very successful: Lágrimas Negras in Innsbruck, The Great Gatsby and Frida Kahlo at the Deutsches Theater Munich. He took part in La Grande Nuit du Tennis in Monte Carlo with The Great Gatsby.
