Frida - Pasión por la vida
Premiere 12.06.2024 -
Deutsches Theater München
The life and art of Frida Kahlo have always fascinated Enrique Gasa Valga. "She was a woman of immense strength and resilience who overcame numerous challenges and adversities. Her story is deeply human and relatable," says Gasa Valga. He wanted to explore the emotions and themes that permeate her work through the medium of dance.
Frida, accompanied by death all her life, lived her life to the full: whether moments flooded with sunlight or those moments that seemed as dark as the darkest night. Her story fascinated the whole world and still does today.
Through movement and artistic representation, Enrique Gasa Valga makes Frida's indomitable spirit, her passion, her intensity and her pain visible.
Inspired by the self-portrait "The Two Fridas" (1939), Gasa Valga only understood the creation of the second Frida after the serious accident in which she narrowly escaped death.
From this point on, it seems as if Frida Kahlo has divided herself into two parts: the Frida who escaped death and the Frida who encounters life full of joie de vivre - free of any pain.

This duality of her soul coexists - figuratively speaking - at times like two independent beings and at times merging with each other.
The two Frida dancers, Lara Brandi and Pilar Fernández Sánchez, embody both the strength and vulnerability of the artist. This creates a visual narrative that reflects the complexity of her life and attempts to capture the essence of Frida Kahlo's unique worldview.
Enrique Gasa Valga has found the perfect venue for the revival of Frida Kahlo at the Deutsches Theater in Munich. After his first production was received with thunderous applause last March, the audience can now expect another deeply moving piece, accompanied by live music for the first time. The Bolzano singer Greta Marcolongo, who was already celebrated by Munich audiences for her role in The Great Gatsby, and the musical director Roberto Tubaro, who is responsible for the original compositions and the masterful new arrangements of the music, are once again part of the team.
La Limonada Dance Company invites the audience to accompany them on a journey through the heart and soul of one of the most captivating figures in art history.
