Matthew Humphreys was born in England and began his professional dance training at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts before continuing his studies at the English National Ballet School. During his time at ENBS he danced in repertoire pieces such as Frederick Ashton's Les Patineurs, Pina Bausch's Tannhäuser Bacchanal and Andrew McNicol's Of Space and Time. His most important teachers have included Jaun Eymar, David Yow and Viviana Durante. He has also performed with the English National Ballet in The Nutcracker and with the Royal Opera in Death in Venice.

Since the 2024/25 season, Matthew has been a trainee at the Limonada Enrique Gasa Valga Dance Company.
