SAYUMI NISHII

TRAINING AND BEGINNINGS

Sayumi Nishii comes from Osaka, Japan. She moved to Tokyo at the age of six and began her ballet training at the Matsuyama Ballet School, which she continued at the Chie Tomioka International Ballet de Tokyo. In 2007, she moved to Italy and completed a year at the Scuola di Ballo dell' Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan. The dancer then completed her dance training at the Zurich Opera House Ballet School.

Her professional career initially took her to the National Theater Brno in the Czech Republic, where she became a member of the corps de ballet. There she had the opportunity to dance in choreographies by renowned choreographers such as Uwe Scholz, George Balanchine, Youri Vamos and Lukas Timulak.

 

INNSBRUCK

In the 2016/17 season, she joined the TanzCompany of the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck. There she took part in numerous productions, including MacBeth, The Tempest, Romy Schneider and Lorca (choreography: Enrique Gasa Valga). She has also danced in contemporary choreographies by renowned guest choreographers such as Uwe Scholz, Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, Chang Ho Shin, Ohad Naharin and Mauro Bigonzetti. She has also appeared in operas such as Orphee et Euridice and Maria de Buenos Aires as well as musicals such as West Side Story and Chicago.  

From December 2023 Sayumi became a permanent ensemble member of the newly founded Limonada Enrique Gasa Valga Dance Company and was seen in Lágrimas Negras, The Great Gatsby at the Deutsches Theater Munich as well as in Monte-Carlo, in Der Fall Wagner (Festspielhaus Erl - Tirol) and in Frida - Pasión por la vida (Deutsches Theater Munich) as Death.
