CUCURUCHO VALDÉS

CUBAN PIANIST

Cucurucho Valdès (three-time Grammy nominee) is considered one of the best-known representatives of Cuban "pianistica". He virtuously fuses contemporary sounds with traditional Afro-Cuban music and is celebrated by the international press for his powerful interpretation. At the age of nine, Roberto Carlos, known as Cucurucho, was already following in the footsteps of his famous uncle Chucho Valdès (7-time Grammy winner, 12-time nominee), who has also been dubbed the "Cuban Mozart of jazz". No less famous is his grandfather, pianist and composer Bebo Valdés (3 Grammys), whose life and work had an equally strong influence on Cucurucho's development. The pianist played in the most famous Cuban salsa bands, such as Charanga Habanera, Isaac Delgado and Paulo FG, and was also the band leader of salsa legends Los Van Van from 2001 to 2014. Cucurucho has performed at venues including the Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl, the Miami Arena and in 2009 in front of an audience of millions at the "Peace Concert" in Havana. His band members over the years have included:

Omara Portuondo from Buena Vista Social Club, the double bassist Fabián García, the world-famous Cuban trumpeter Julio Padrón and some of Havana's most famous drummers.

His European tour is now taking him to Austria for the first time with a large line-up.
