RAY FERNÁNDEZ

CUBAN SINGER AND GUITARIST

Ray Fernandez is considered one of the most important and probably most charismatic representatives of the neuva trova genre in Cuba. The trained chef earned his spurs as a street musician on the Malecon in Habana before he was discovered by the poet Bladimir Zamora and invited to Cuba's largest theater. His songs, above all luca tu yuca, became widely known among large sections of the Cuban population. His albums, some of which were awarded the Cuban music prize EGREM, earned him the suspicion of those in power. His weekly matinees at the El Diablo Tun Tun club are legendary and further increased his fame. His tours, including supporting Manu Chao, finally brought him international attention and recognition. Ray Fernandez is currently one of Cuba's most controversial musicians. He captivates audiences like no other with his humor, charm and stage presence, but above all with his voice.
